Scholarships
A growing number of Canadian universities and colleges offer entrance
scholarships to their institutions. Information about criteria and duration of
scholarships from Canadian education institutions can be obtained directly
through the financial aid offices of universities and colleges.
A number of Government of Canada scholarships are listed below. Please click on

Canadian Fellowship Program for French-Speaking Countries
The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) offers a number of
awards each year for undergraduate and graduate study to academically qualified
students from 37 francophone developing countries. Scholars must be fluent in
French (written and oral). There is no age limit, but an applicant must have
obtained his or her most recent degree in the last five years in the case of an
application for university studies or in the last ten years for college
studies. Awards are available in all disciplines likely to contribute to the
development of the scholar's country, with the exception of clinical studies in medicine,
pharmacy and dentistry.
International Development Research Centre (IDRC)
IDRC funds and administers a number of award programs to Canadians and
developing country nationals in the field of international development.
Research Associateships
The National Research Council (NRC) offers Research Associateships tenable only in its laboratories. These
associateships are intended to give promising scientists and engineers an
opportunity to work on challenging research problems in fields of interest to
NRC as a stage in the development of their research careers.
The Sauvé Scholars Program
The Sauvé Scholars Program was established in November 2002
by the Jeanne Sauvé Foundation. The Program is a unique
opportunity for highly motivated people of demonstrated
leadership potential, who are under the age of thirty. They
come to Montreal where they have an opportunity to enlarge
upon their understanding of the state of the world and their
potential in making positive change to it.
Under the terms of an agreement with McGill University, the
Scholars are given open-door access to all courses and
programs at McGill. Scholars audit whatever classes they
wish. However they do not write exams nor do they earn
academic credits.
Each scholarship is worth approximately $30,000CDN. It
includes the cost of transportation to and from Montreal,
food and lodging while here, group excursions and certain
other expenses.
Complete application forms must be received by December
31st.
Visiting Fellowships in Canadian Government Laboratories
This program is administered by the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) on behalf of Canadian government
laboratories. It provides promising young scientists with the opportunity to
work with well-established research groups and leaders in their fields in
federal research laboratories.
